consultant pricing
What do you do if you just don’t feel like going it alone; or, if you simply can’t do it, for one reason or another? What if you don’t want to waste time with the unpleasant, energy-consuming behind-the-scenes aspects of the writing profession? Or, what if you need an extra set of hands or another pair of eyes?
Regardless of the reason or situation, consulting services with the-freelance-editor can be helpful.
We provide consulting services that include project management, assistance with self-publishing and e-publishing, application of instructional design techniques, and suggestions about marketing efforts and blogging. In addition, we can offer oversight and assistance (or do them for you) with personal histories; manual indexing, tables of contents, and bibliographies; and more.
Project management
. . . scheduling meetings, press runs, deliveries . . . exploring marketing strategies . . . researching and pricing publication alternatives . . . selling . . . I call these chores “the work of writing” because they are behind-the-scenes but necessary annoyances that get in the way of writing—I’ve actually worked with authors who would not finish manuscripts because they didn’t want to face chores like these!
Writing is not always (some would say it’s not often) an easy job; however, it might be just a little bit easier if you let the-freelance-editor help with the background chores—those nasty, pesky administrative details that you never want to do—so you can concentrate on your writing.
Personal histories
Whether you call them memoirs, autobiographies, biographies, or personal histories (and, yes, they do have differences), you really should seek out the help of an experienced professional to help you decide what type of presentation you want to make and how to present your message in the best possible way.
The same applies to family histories and business histories or corporate histories. I’ve worked with businessmen, teachers, and farmers, and if I don’t know best how to help you, I have connections to an entire group of eager associates who will.
Self-publishing and e-publishing
While errors in spelling and grammar and logic are becoming more and more common in publications of all types, do you really want your name associated with such sloppiness?
If not, let’s work together to make sure your work is ready for the self-publisher or e-publisher of your choice. the-freelance-editor can also help you format and prepare your work for submission.
Marketing and blogging
Advances in cross-publishing between social media platforms and the ease of fingertip power within cell phone apps have made online marketing efforts much easier over recent years; but you’ll still need to find or make the time for marketing your work.
And, while it is definitely worth the effort, setting up and maintaining a blog can take much of that time by itself. A team at the-freelance-editor can help you get started and help you develop a routine, or we can do some of the work for you—as always, you choose.
Manual indexing, tables of contents, bibliographies
Indexes and tables of contents, as well as bibliographies—especially annotated bibliographies—increase the value of publications many times over. In fact, some publishers have been known to base their final purchase decisions on the presence and quality of a book’s index, table of contents, or bibliography.
To that end, the-freelance-editor can provide manual indexing services that easily surpass any automated service currently on the market! In addition, we can create a complete table of contents and thorough bibliography—sometimes as a package deal.
Instructional design
For projects in which the primary concern is readability (books for young readers or ESL students, for example) or if the main objective is to present sequential information (as in directions, guidebooks, or manuals), teams at the-freelance-editor use established, research-backed instructional design techniques to ensure that your words are easily read and understood while still looking polished and professional.
Other consulting projects
You name the topic and we can probably assist you with it in one way or another, even if I need to refer you elsewhere. After all, I’ve been writing, researching, and editing for many, many years in many, many settings. I’ve worked with independent presses and small publishers for almost as long. And, I’ve been blogging and helping bloggers since the early days of the 2000s!
So, get in touch—I love a good challenge! I also love helping writers reach their audiences. But you’ll never know how I might be able to help if you don’t get in touch . . .
Ready to move forward?
Are you getting ideas? The ways a freelance editor can assist you are practically limitless! So, get in touch as your thoughts start to gel to see how the-freelance-editor, in particular, can help with your dreams.
Any of the above consultant options can be planned around your schedule and priced for your budget, especially when combined with an hourly pricing arrangement or our popular project-based plan. You might also be able to work with our fairly unique “Monopoly Plan,” during which you get my full-time, undivided attention!
If no option seems totally appropriate, let me know, and we can discuss a tailor-made solution.
